BIOGRAPHY

An atypical background is an asset in the career of a composer.

Born in 1983 in Bulgaria, Iliyan Marinov began his career at the national school of music and traditional arts "Filip Kutev" (Kotel). He learned to play the mandolin and developed knowledge in harmony, polyphony, history of music and art, violin making and traditional instruments. Then he continued his studies in music pedagogy at the University of Blagoevgrad, where he also took courses in orchestration and composition. In addition to his studies, he played the first mandolin and conducted the university's mandolin orchestra. He also worked as assistant to the choir leader of the "Bulgarian voices" and sang in the choir of orthodox songs of the American University of Blagoevgrad (AUBG). His taste for composition, sound and visual arts led him to a Master's degree in musical and sound creation in Paris, where he attended the composition workshops of José Manuel Lopez Lopez, and the electroacoustic composition classes of Alain Bonardi and Anne Sedes.

As part of a recent professional project, Iliyan Marinov produced the soundtrack (music and sound) for a show that won the first prize at the AAPA Brass Ring Awards in the United States. For this project, he composed, recorded, mixed and encoded in 7.1 the music, the atmospheres and the sound effects.
